Jallianwala Bagh Massacre in Amritsar

Acting on orders from General Reginald Dyer, troops blocked the single narrow exit of Jallianwala Bagh and fired indiscriminately on thousands of men, women, and children. The tragedy prompted Rabindranath Tagore to renounce his British knighthood and galvanized the nationwide Non-Cooperation Movement.
