Constitution of India Comes into Effect
Crafted under the leadership of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Chairman of the Drafting Committee, the Constitution of India became effective on 26 January 1950, replacing the Government of India Act 1935. Dr. Rajendra Prasad took the oath as India's first President.
